Discover the historical and spiritual essence of Bogota by visiting the majestic Nuestra Señora del Carmen Las Cruces Church. Located in the vibrant Historic Center, this architectural jewel is a monument that has defied the passage of time, with a history that dates back more than 100 years and has witnessed countless transcendental moments in the life of the city.
Erected in the mid-17th century and rebuilt in the late 19th century after the earthquakes that shook Bogota in 1826 and 1827, the church was established in its current location in front of the emblematic Las Cruces Park built at the same time. Converting the old hermitage into a parish responded to the Archdiocese's need to get closer to the working class neighborhoods to provide spiritual support to the community of truck drivers and workers in the area.
Despite having survived the Bogotazo following the assassination of Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, who was born nearby, Our Lady of Carmen Las Cruces Church remains standing, offering catechesis, counseling, sacraments and formation to the approximately 10,000 inhabitants of the community today. A visit to this emblematic place will allow you to immerse yourself in the rich history and devotion that have forged the identity of Bogotá.
