On July 10, 1908 it became the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Around 1937, land annexed to the palace was acquired with the purpose of constructing a 3-story building where the ministry would operate and the work was entrusted to the architect Pietro Cantini, who had just finished the Colón Theater.
The new facade of the palace would be incorporated forming a set with the birthplace of Rafael Pombo, the famous poet, the Colon Theater and a colonial house, now home to the Diplomatic Academy of San Carlos, built in 1970 by Enrique Umaña.
