according to oral tradition, the place was built as part of an effort by the construction company to recover its good name, after the surprising fall of the roof of another theater designed and built by them in the north of the city.

For this reason, in 1969 the architects spared no effort to deliver the designs for a solid construction perfectly adapted for theatrical artistic activities.

During its beginnings, the Teatro de Bogotá was dedicated to film projection (from the early 1970s) until the population that previously resided in the city center began to move to new neighborhoods located in the north and west of the capital.

Over the years, this sector of downtown Bogota became a tolerance zone (an area of the city where prostitution is concentrated) and the theater became a movie theater showing films for adults.

After several decades of abandonment, and with the rebirth of the sector, the theater was acquired by the Universidad Central, which undertook the task of remodeling it, to use it as a stage for academic activities and the presentation of artistic expressions.

One of the characteristics of the theater is its perfect acoustics, which provides ideal conditions for musical performances, stage plays and vocal recitals.

Some walls were bush hammered manually to give them a better finish. This technique is worked by hand by masters who use the bush hammer, an ancient form of carving used for coverings and handicrafts and in interior design, providing elegant and unique finishes to the spaces.

Since 2007, when it was acquired by the Universidad Central, it has been the stage for opera seasons, chess tournaments, musical presentations, and rehearsals (recitals) of the Colombian Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

This is a place that tells a story of greatness, oblivion, abandonment, and resurgence. Here the history of the development of the film industry is experienced through the story of the Universidad Central guide who takes us through time.
