This is an exuberant space full of green everywhere where you will feel the vibrations that only contact with mother earth gets. Within the vegetation of the path, you will be able to appreciate several species of the main ecosystem and a variety of plants such as acacias, pines, sabanero rubber, cedrillos, raques and eucalyptus.
Located in the town of Usaquén to the north of Bogotá, in the rural area, the trail-hill La Aguadora, is an imposing natural wonder; It has 52 hectares of extension, a height of 2,700 to 3,000 meters above sea level, it mixes several ecosystems, maintains native exotic vegetation and an endless number of species that only inhabit here.
The trail-hill La Aguadora is part of the Protective Forest Reserve Bosque Oriental de Bogotá between the upper basin of the Santa Bárbara creek and the Santa Ana creek. To enter the trail-hill La Aguadora, you must reach the Plaza de Usaquén and by on the northeastern side, take the road to Club La Aguadora, owned by the Aqueduct and Sewer Company of Bogotá. Approximately 500 meters uphill, the beginning of the path that crosses a pine plantation is identified, this is the prelude that leads to the native high Andean Forest.
On the trail-hill La Aguadora there is a viewpoint from where you can detail impressive panoramic views; From there you will observe some streams that emerge from the eastern hills such as: El Río Molinos, La Floresta, La Cita, San Cristóbal, Delicias del Carmen, Contador and La Chorrera.
From the top of the La Aguadora trail-hill, you can see the San Rafael reservoir, a reservoir that supplies drinking water to more than 80% of the inhabitants of Bogotá, located in the municipality of La Calera, a landscape that will leave you speechless.
The La Aguadora trail-hill is characterized by maintaining a humid environment and its remnant high Andean Forest ecosystem allows the presence of exotic plants such as pines, eucalyptus, urapan and acacias. There you will listen and meet endemic birds of this ecosystem such as the Candelita Frentidorada (Myioborus ornatus) and you will hear, all the way, the curious Tororoi Comprapan (Grallaria ruficapilla).
On a clear day it is possible to observe, from the viewpoint of the La Aguadora trail-hill, the Nevados National Park, you will also detect small streams and a variety of birdlife that will make your journey more pleasant.
If you want to climb the La Aguadora trail-hill you must be in good physical condition, as the ascent is demanding; Furthermore, if you attend with a group of more than 15 people, authorization must be obtained from the Supply Directorate of the Aqueduct Company of Bogotá specifying those responsible, number of people in charge, date of the activity and other details.
When descending from the hill, you must take the path over the top of La Cuchilla, through which you will arrive at Club La Aguadora and, immediately afterwards, you will arrive at the Plaza de Usaquén, the place where this adventure begins. The club has interpretive trails, bicycle racks, surveillance and its own infrastructure for hiking. In Usaquén, take the opportunity to taste some of the many gastronomic options the area offers.
