Botero Museum

Located in La Candelaria, the historical and cultural center of Bogota, is the Botero Museum, a stage that houses one of the most important collections of international art that you can find in Latin America. Safety pin!

Thanks to the donation made by the maestro Fernando Botero in 2000 to the Banco de la República, you can access this important exhibition of national and international art for free and permanently.

The Botero Museum is located in a traditional and beautiful house in the center of the city. At the end of 1999, this space kept the art collection of the Banco de la República. This building has been adapted with arches that give the place more space and facilitate access for your visit.

The same master Botero guided the arrangement of the works with his own criteria, favoring colors such as green and white that are very characteristic of the La Candelaria neighborhood. Likewise, a palette that ranges from white to gray and from dark green to black, was used on surfaces such as: doors, windows, handrails, signage and walls.

Botero's museum proposal had a fundamental component: light. Therefore, in common areas such as lobbies, corridors and patios, you will see how natural light provides a unique balance. On the other hand, the artificial light used is dim and seeks to maintain the semi-darkness as a complement that provides a special atmosphere in the exhibition; In the museum room, you will see how perfectly illuminated works stand out.

In each visual axis of the Botero Museum you will see a three-dimensional work that serves as a prelude and articulates the narrative of the artistic journey (the master Fernando Botero thought of everything to make your experience memorable). In each work you will find identification cards and explanatory texts that emphasize the details of the art pieces, so you can understand them in context.

The Botero Museum in Bogota has been located in a house and that domestic character will allow you to find hospitality, kindness and kindness very typical of the inhabitants of the city. You will feel like one more bogotano!
