Bogotá and Its Spiritual Connection with Cundinamarca

Jubilee Temples 2025 in Cundinamarca.
In celebration of the Jubilee Year 2025, several temples in Cundinamarca have been designated as pilgrimage points. This allows the faithful to obtain indulgences and experience deep spiritual reflection. Noteworthy among them are the following:

Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary (Facatativá).
📍 Facatativá – Capital of the Western Savanna Province
Located in the heart of the Western Savanna, this cathedral symbolizes the region's deep religiosity. Its neoclassical structure has witnessed countless historical events, and after the devastation of the 1967 earthquake, it was meticulously restored to continue serving as a gathering place for the faithful. Its beauty and significance make it an essential site on this Jubilee tour.

Our Lady of Bethlehem Parish Church (Fusagasugá).
📍 Fusagasugá – Capital of the Sumapaz Province
Founded in 1612, Our Lady of Bethlehem Parish boasts over 400 years of history. Notable parish priests include the historian Lucas Fernández de Piedrahíta and José Celestino Mutis. The invocation of Our Lady of Bethlehem is essential to the Catholic identity of the citizens of Fusagasugá, represented by a 16th-century canvas that was enthroned in 1776

St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church (Gachetá).
📍 Gachetá – Capital of the Guavio Province
Located in the main square of Gachetá, this church is an iconic symbol of the municipality. Inspired by Roman architecture, it features two towers with pointed roofs and a statue of Jesus Christ at its center, creating a solemn and majestic atmosphere. Recent renovations have enhanced its facade, and the installation of a sound system has improved the experience during liturgical celebrations

Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Girardot).
📍 Girardot – Capital of the Alto Magdalena Province
This cathedral serves as a key religious landmark in Alto Magdalena. Dedicated to the city's patron saint, it is the first parish established in Girardot. Its imposing central nave, constructed at the end of the 20th century, is a monument of significant historical value. The Romanesque architectural design, influenced by Gothic elements, makes it a unique example of religious architecture in the region.

Parish Temple Saint Barbara (La Mesa).
📍 La Mesa – Tequendama Province.
Built between 1900 and 1910, this Republican-era temple is notable for its historical significance. The current church stands on the site where José Celestino Mutis began the Botanical Expedition in 1785, adding not just religious but also scientific and cultural value to the temple.

St. Anthony of Padua Parish (Pacho).
📍 Pacho – Capital de la provincia de Rionegro.
The Church of St. Anthony of Padua was founded in 1714, evolving from an Indigenous doctrine and later serving as a parish for both Indigenous and white congregants in various locations. Its first parish priest, Dr. Juan José Forero, initiated the construction of a small temple, which was later continued by Priest Tomás Acero y Vargas.

In 1807, a devastating fire destroyed the temple and much of the surrounding town. With the arrival of Father Lucas Gómez, construction of the current church began, and the original façade has been preserved. In 1993, a restoration was undertaken to renovate the interior, ensuring that the tradition of faith in the region remains vibrant.

St. Michael the Archangel Parish Temple (Villeta).
📍 Villeta – Capital of the Gualivá Province
The history of this temple is closely tied to the founding of Villeta in 1551 by Alonso de Olalla and Hernando de Alcocer, who were commissioned by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. Originally inhabited by the Panches and Chapaimas, tribes known for their rich rituals and beliefs, the region underwent significant changes with the arrival of colonizers and the process of evangelization. The temple was originally consecrated to Saint Michael the Archangel, recognized as a protector against adversities. Today, this church continues to symbolize the religious identity of the municipality.
