Learn about this activity while touring the rural landscapes of Usme, surrounded by mountains and different crops, and discover the secrets of beekeeping from the hands of the experts. . . 

You will learn about the honey harvesting process and observe the beehives in action while wearing safety equipment to avoid stings. You will also gain an understanding of the vital role played by these insects in environmental restoration and learn how to prepare the honey into aromatic and derived products that you can take home.

¿Cómo llegar?
  • Particular vehicle: From any point in Bogotá, drive towards the Usme locality. Once there, follow the signs to the downtown area of Usme and head towards the Arrayanes village.
  • Transmilenio: From the portal of Usme, take the feeder bus 3-10 to the downtown and then arrange private transport to the villages.
  • SITP or bus: From your current location, look for an integrated bus service that will take you to your destination route. Once you arrive, you can take any SITP bus to the Usme portal or take one that goes to Usme town. Check the TransMilenio platforms for routes that will bring you closer to the villages. From there, arrange for a vehicle to drop you off at the villages.
¿Qué vas a conocer?
  • The journey starts at the La Casita Feliz del Páramo reserve. Here, we will learn about creating vegetable gardens in small spaces to restore soil from monocultures. We'll also discover the process for using plants and have a chance to taste aromatic herbs  
  • Afterwards, we will visit the Apiusme farm, where Sandra Peñaloza will give us a short tour to educate us about the role of bees in food sovereignty. The tour will conclude at the La Regadera viewpoint with a delightful rural lunch."
