Looking for something to do this weekend? "Visit Bogota" invites you to El Country Park in the north of Bogotá for the 27th edition of Jazz al Parque. The event will feature exclusive representatives of this musical genre from around the world and will take place between September 28 and 29. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy performances by four international artists from India, Greece, Turkey, and the United States, as well as three national artists from Medellín, Popayán, and Cali, and eight artists from the Colombian capital

"Jazz has always been a music that crosses borders, and this will be demonstrated at our festival. Musicians from different countries will show how this musical genre fuses with other musical traditions to create unique and universal sounds. That's why this festival is not only for jazz experts; it is for all those who want to enjoy an unforgettable musical experience full of good music," said María Claudia Parias, director of the District Institute of the Arts (Idartes). 

In this edition, you will experience a fusion of South Indian rhythms with modern and contemporary trends. Additionally, you will be treated to a blend of Balkan, Arab, and French sounds alongside Colombian rhythms in a celebration of global musical diversity. The lineup of artists begins with Varijashree Venugopal, from India.They are known for their vocal virtuosity and their ability to merge the classical tradition of Indian Carnatic music with contemporary jazz. Also performing is the NY Gypsy All-Stars from the United States, who will bring an exciting blend of jazz, gypsy music, and Balkan rhythms to the stage.

Jazz in Colombia has successfully integrated with traditional rhythms like cumbia, porro, bambuco, and currulao, showcasing the cultural and musical diversity of the country. As a result, at Jazz al Parque, you will have the opportunity to experience musical ensembles such as the Juan Romero Cuarteto, led by saxophonist Juan Romero. They combine elements of jazz with Andean music

You will also get to experience the sounds of the plains with the band "Cachicamo," which blends Colombian folklore with contemporary jazz. Meanwhile, the Caribbean rhythms will be brought to you by the "Harvey Urueña Quintet," fusing modern jazz with Afro-Colombian and Caribbean music

You can also meet the group "Mikaël Hyla Cuarteto," an instrumental music project created by French accordionist Mikaël Hyla. He lives in Medellín and is supported by Colombian musicians who play a fusion of traditional music from Europe and Latin America. This music proposal travels between Paris and the Caribbean, featuring the accordion, clarinet, drums, and double bass, with rhythms of swing, French waltz, Colombian cumbia, pasillo, melodies from Eastern Europe, and Latin jazz from Puerto Rico and Cuba.

One of the invited groups is "Con Alma Dueto" from Cali. The duo consists of a couple of artists who received their musical training in Cali and Buenos Aires, Argentina. They will showcase their unique proposal centered around the composition of unreleased music.

Art and Entrepreneurship

Besides enjoying the best of jazz, attendees will have an Art and Entrepreneurship Zone with more than 30 types of products, including jewelry, textiles, prints, and ruana. Those proposals are built under a sustainable concept. The space will also feature a literary picnic and the presence of the Libro al Viento Program, which will hand out several titles to visitors.

The Arte a la KY program, an initiative that strengthens the activities of artists in public spaces through various strategies, will be featured at the festival.

JUAN ROMERO CUARTETO (Popayán)

Juan Romero Cuarteto presents a musical journey that combines the rich aesthetics of southwestern Colombia with jazz improvisation. Led by saxophonist Juan Romero, this talented ensemble performs original compositions such as "El Viaje" and "Fantasía sobre la Guaneña," creating a sonic experience that transports the audience to Nariño. Featuring Giovanni Caldas on piano, Julián Gómez on double bass, and Ramón Berrocal on drums, the group delivers an unforgettable concert filled with energy and creativity.


CON ALMA DUETO (Cali)

From Cali, Con Alma Dueto are two artists who received their musical training in their city and Buenos Aires, Argentina. They will present their proposal based on the composition of unreleased music.

OSCARYVAN GARZÓN TRÍO

Oscar Ivan Garzón is a Colombian pianist, educator, and composer. He is one of the most outstanding musicians in the country's artistic scene, known for his versatility, creativity, and constant innovation. His trio currently consists of bassist Anderson Castrillón and drummer Juan Felipe Calderón

MANGLAR TRÍO

Manglar Trio is a musical project that delves into two main areas: the behaviors of regional music (Caribbean/Pacific) and free improvisation.This exploration is part of a research and creation process specifically designed for the piano trio format. Its beginnings started with arrangements and interpretations of the album “Tonk” recorded by Colombian pianist Néstor Vivas. Later, the trio was officially formed in 2016 by musicians Kike Harker (double bass) and Jorge Sepúlveda (drums).

HARBEY URUEÑA QUINTETO

This ensemble introduces new sounds that are more appealing to the audience, offering a more expansive repertoire and a fresh experience. The trombone is the main instrument, accompanied by the bass, drums, piano, and treble, which bring innovation to the jazz scene. With three record productions and numerous national recognitions, the quintet's consistent artistic activity and musical quality affirm their lasting impact on the music scene.

CAMILO IBARRA TRÍO

Camilo Ibarra is a musician from Nariño who blends the characteristic sounds of his homeland with cutting-edge jazz expressions, creating a unique and enriching musical dialogue. The Camilo Ibarra Trio, consisting of Mauricio Asencio on double bass, Sergio Gutiérrez on drums, and Camilo on lead and electric guitar, deeply reflects the cultural roots of southern Colombia while also boldly exploring new frontiers within jazz and improvised music

LALO CORTÉS

Lalo Cortés is the name of the Afro-Colombian singer and composer with four years of solo career (2020 - present). She has gained recognition as one of the Colombian singers with the most outstanding international projection, thanks to her Latin American neo-soul music style.

CACHICAMO

Cachicamo is a band that combines elements of jazz, Latin American music, and minimalism to create a musical experience filled with symbolism. Their music explores themes of transformation, memory, and the power of nature, inviting listeners to embark on a spiritual journey where the earthly and the mystical come together.

JORGE CABEZAS QUINTETO

The group Jorge Cabezas Quinteto was created in 2018 by the Bogotá-born bassist Jorge Cabezas. The group's music is based on improvisation and Colombian influences, and it is inspired by musicians like Dave Holland, Juan Manuel Toro, Steve Swallow, Chris Lightcap, and Ben Allison. Cabezas has composed the music for three albums: "Maniquíes" (2018), "19 pasos" (2021), and "Fuerza" (2023).

RODRIGO PARDO

In 2021, the double bass player and composer Rodrigo Pardo wrote a series of pieces for a jazz quintet composed of trumpet, alto saxophone, piano, double bass, and drums. Departing from the style of music he had previously written for the group Palo' e Corozo, Pardo decided to create this quintet to explore different elements of contemporary music and jazz. He used improvisation as a constant element in the development of each piece
