You will have the opportunity to view classic cars that belong to prominent figures in the political, artistic, and cultural life of Bogotá and the country. These include Gabriel García Márquez's Volkswagen Beetle, Jorge Eliecer Gaitán's Chevrolet Bel Air, and Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento's Renault 18, symbol of the 1989 presidential campaign. The "Parade of classic and antique cars" is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, from the parking lot of Salitre Mágico

The caravan, part of Bogotá's 486th-anniversary celebration, will pass along Calle 63 towards the eastern hills, reaching Carrera 7 and culminating at Calle 134 at the Paseo San Rafael Shopping Center.

Nearly 200 iconic models, including sedans and luxury sports cars from the 1930s to the 1980s, will be exhibited on the streets of the city. In addition to the vehicles mentioned above, the Ford Fairlane of Alfonso López Michelsen and the Jeep Willys of Consuelo Araújo Noguera, among many others, will be on display, highlighting the historical and cultural value of these automobiles in Bogotá during the 20th century.

It is organized by the District Institute of Tourism (IDT) and with the support of the Club de Aficionados del Vehículo Antiguo (Cava). This club is made up of about a thousand members and three thousand "gems on wheels," as its president, Óscar Mauricio Varela Herrera, poetically calls them

Colombia al Parque

The celebration of Bogota's 486 years is not over. The 23rd edition of the Colombia al Parque Festival will be held from August 23 to 25 at Parque El Lago, also known as Parque de los Novios, in Bogotá. This event is a celebration of Colombia's cultural diversity and will showcase the country's regional and traditional music.

This year's theme, ''Cuando el río suena...'' (When the river sounds...,) evokes the profound connection of rivers to the culture and history of Colombia. Each musical and artistic content of the festival explores the impact on the lives and traditions of communities along the Magdalena River, the country's most important river artery. The South Pacific region of Colombia will be the special guest of this year's edition

The program will commence at noon this Friday and will last until 9:45 p.m. on Saturday and 8:45 p.m. on Sunday. It will showcase performances from six national groups, and Herencia de Timbiquí will be the closing act. This is a group that, in their own words, "revalues the empirical musical knowledge of the Colombian Pacific, mixing it with elements of contemporary urban music, to produce a global sonority, focused on the black roots of the coast." It will also feature the participation of the Gaiteros de Pueblo Santo, from Barranquilla; Sol Nacer, from Silvia; Semblanzas del Río Guapí, from Guapí; Zaider, from Cartagena and the special guest will be the Colombian Music Philharmonic, which maestro Jorge Andrés Arbeláez Rendón will conduct.

Some of the international guests are the Billo's Caracas Boys, a legendary Venezuelan orchestra that has been a benchmark of tropical music and has delighted several generations. Lila Downs, from Mexico, is famous for fusing diverse musical genres with lyrics that have high social content. And the Chilean singer and composer Pascuala Ilabaca, who mixes traditional and contemporary music.
