Bogotá is surrounded by nature; more than 75% of its territory is rural, which makes it a real supplier of water and natural foods. One locality contributes the most to this harvest: Ciudad Bolivar. In this place, besides its beautiful rural landscapes, you can find hundreds of farms where farmers develop their life projects.
Foodstuffs such as potatoes, strawberries, vegetables, and dairy products, such as cheese and yogurt, are produced here. A whole model of sustainable and educational tourism has also been developed here in neighborhoods such as El Paraíso, where people not only offer experiences to visitors and tourists but also raise awareness among the inhabitants about the need to preserve the natural heritage
How to get there?
You can arrive by TransMilenio, which will take you along Avenida Caracas in a north-south direction, and get off at the Biblioteca Station. For your convenience, it would be a good idea to take a safe cab service. If you go by personal car, take Ciudad de Villavicencio Avenue, continue to Mochuelo Road, and follow the road for 6.8 kilometers to reach the sector where you will find the tourist attractions mentioned above.
In this southern sector of the city, the TransMicable was implemented: a sophisticated cable car transportation system that has served the community to improve mobility in a more agile and effective way; it has also become a tourist attraction and is connected to TransMilenio. So, you can enjoy one of its routes, contemplate the city from the air, and start your tour in the rural area of Ciudad Bolivar.
How to access the tour?
The "Mirachuelo Eco-environmental Park" is one of the most recommended destinations for tourists. It offers a broad range of activities, such as environmental education and tourism services, as well as talks on clean production, recycling, planting, and the use of clean energies, including solar panels and the manufacture of organic fertilizers.
Another popular stop is "Lacteos de doña Rosita," a place that sells cheeses, yogurts, and products derived from the countryside. Visitors can also experience milking goats.
Finally, another option that we recommend you visit is the "Royal Botanical Garden of Colombia," a place with different natural environments in the middle of the Lucero Medio neighborhood. It is a building where you will find fish, succulents, bromeliads, orchids, and even a natural pool. Although from the outside, it looks like the facade of a local house, inside it houses hundreds of vegetative species.
Supporting ecotourism allows Bogota's farmers to enjoy a better quality of life. They will also teach you about their peasant culture, their ancestral knowledge, and the importance of taking care of the land.
