Bogota has countless scenarios where nature is the protagonist. The Eastern Hills frame the city with green, and on them are unique places to enjoy the contact with vegetation and fauna. The Entrenubes Mountain District Ecological Park is one of these exciting sceneries that you must visit.
Located in the southeast of Bogotá, the Entrenubes Mountain District Ecological Park is part of the San Cristóbal, Usme and Rafael Uribe Uribe localities. It is formed by three imposing hills: Juan Rey, Guacamayas and Cuchilla del Gavilán, which are part of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range.
The extension of Entrenubes Park is so vast, having a complete network of trails to access from different parts of the city. There are five sites from which you can get to this complex of nature and life:
- Santa Marta neighborhood, behind the Transmilenio portal in Usme.
- From the Piedra del Amor in the Diana Turbay neighborhood.
- Access through the Fiscala neighborhood.
- Main entrance through the Nueva Roma School.
- Entrance from the Juan Rey viewpoint.
Thanks to its location, Entrenubes Park has ecosystems such as the high Andean forest and the sub-paramo, where life just... happens. The park reaches an altitude between 2,600 and 3,100 meters above sea level, ideal for mosses, ferns, orchids and a forest layer spreading over each slope.
The Entrenubes Mountain District Ecological Park is also a privileged site for the sighting of forest birds. There, you can see species of unique beauty such as the Red-crested Cotinga (Ampelion rubrocristatus) and the Yellow-billed Cacique (Amblycercus holosericeus).
From Entrenubes Park you can get an impeccable postcard view of Bogota. From a viewpoint, with a height equivalent to that of Monserrate hill (3,152 meters high), you will enjoy a 360-degree view of a city that integrates the rural and the urban in a unique way.
This Bogota scenario is primarily oriented to the protection and restoration of the fauna of the high Andean forest; it is also an important epicenter for promoting environmental education in the city.
Entrenubes Park is an ideal space for sports, meditation and encounters with nature. There you will find guided tours, environmental workshops, passive recreation activities and ecological walks. In the park there are important water tributaries that flow into the Tunjuelo River, such as the Chiguaza, Verjones, Yomosa, Seca, Bolonia and La Olla del Ramo streams.
